2. Solicitors Regulation Authority
The Solicitors Regulation Authority regulates solicitors and law firms in England and Wales.
The SRA’s rules are designed to ensure, amongst other things, that solicitors:
- act in a way that upholds the constitutional principle of the rule of law and the proper administration of justice;
- act in a way that upholds public trust and confidence in the solicitors’ profession and legal services;
- act with independence;
- act with honesty;
- act with integrity;
- act in a way that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion; and
- act in the best interests of each client.
Information regarding ASA Solicitors’ regulatory status can be verified through the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s Solicitors Register using SRA number 8007612.
3. SRA Digital Badge
ASA Solicitors displays the SRA digital badge on its website in accordance with the SRA Transparency Rules.
The digital badge provides confirmation that ASA Solicitors is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
4. Professional Indemnity Insurance
ASA Solicitors maintains professional indemnity insurance in accordance with the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Further information concerning our professional indemnity insurance will be provided where required by applicable regulatory requirements.
5. Client Money
Where we hold client money, it is held and dealt with in accordance with the SRA Accounts Rules and our professional and regulatory obligations.
Where applicable, clients may also have access to protections provided by the SRA Compensation Fund, subject to the eligibility requirements and rules applying to that fund.
6. Standards of Service
We are committed to providing our clients with a professional, efficient and high-quality legal service.
At the commencement of a matter, clients will ordinarily receive written information setting out matters such as:
- the scope of our instructions;
- the work we have agreed to undertake;
- responsibility for the matter;
- our fees and charging arrangements;
- anticipated disbursements and third-party costs;
- relevant timescales where these can reasonably be estimated;
- applicable terms of business; and
- information regarding our complaints procedure.
The terms contained within an individual client’s engagement documentation will take precedence in relation to that particular retainer.
7. Confidentiality
We take our duty of confidentiality seriously.
Information concerning our clients and their affairs is kept confidential except where:
- disclosure is authorised by the client;
- disclosure is required or permitted by law;
- disclosure is required by our professional or regulatory obligations; or
- another recognised legal or professional exception applies.
Our obligations of confidentiality continue after a particular matter has concluded.
8. Prevention of Money Laundering and Financial Crime
Like other regulated law firms, ASA Solicitors may be required to undertake identity, verification, source of funds, source of wealth and other due diligence checks.
We may therefore request documents or information from clients, prospective clients and, where appropriate, other relevant persons.
We reserve the right to decline or cease to act where we are unable to satisfactorily complete required checks or where professional, regulatory or legal obligations require us to do so.
We may also be required by law to make disclosures to relevant authorities. In certain circumstances, the law may prevent us from informing an affected person that such a disclosure has been made.
9. Complaints
ASA Solicitors has a written Complaints Procedure, which is available on this website.
We aim to resolve concerns promptly, fairly and effectively.
Making a complaint will not affect the way in which we handle your matter, although in some circumstances the nature of the complaint may mean that it is no longer appropriate or possible for us to continue acting.
10. Legal Ombudsman and SRA
Complaints concerning the standard of service provided by a legal services provider may, subject to eligibility and applicable time limits, be referred to the Legal Ombudsman after our internal complaints process has been followed or the applicable period for our response has expired.
Concerns relating to a solicitor’s professional conduct may, where appropriate, be raised with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Further information is contained in our Complaints Procedure.
11. Website Information
Information provided on this website is intended to provide general information only.
It does not constitute legal advice and should not be relied upon as a substitute for advice concerning your individual circumstances.
Viewing this website, communicating with us through this website or sending an enquiry does not, by itself, create a solicitor-client relationship.
A solicitor-client relationship will only arise once ASA Solicitors has expressly agreed to act and the relevant engagement requirements have been satisfied.
12. Changes to Regulatory Information
Legal and regulatory requirements may change from time to time.
ASA Solicitors may update this Legal & Regulatory Information accordingly.
