2. Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII)
We maintain professional indemnity insurance meeting or exceeding the SRA’s Minimum Terms and Conditions.
Insurer name, policy number, territorial scope, and contact details are available to clients and prospective clients on request.
3. Complaints Handling & Redress
We aim to deliver an excellent service. If something goes wrong:
Step 1: Raise concerns with your file handler.
Step 2: Escalate to our Complaints Handling Officer, please telephone on 01274 900 400 or via email mail@asa.co.uk.
We will acknowledge within five working days and aim to issue a written outcome within 28 days.
If we cannot resolve your complaint within 8 weeks, or you remain dissatisfied, you may have the right to refer to the Legal Ombudsman (www.legalombudsman.org.uk | 0300 555 0333) within the scheme time limits.
Concerns about conduct, dishonesty, or breaches of the SRA rules can be reported to the SRA(www.sra.org.uk/consumers).

4. Fees, Pricing & Legal Aid
- We undertake publicly funded (Legal Aid) work where eligible. We will assess eligibility and explain any contributions payable.
- For privately funded work, we provide clear costs information: hourly rates, fixed fees where available, and likely disbursements.
- Before starting work, clients receive a Client Care Letter and Terms of Business setting out scope, strategy, costs, and key risks.

5. Anti-Money Laundering (AML), CTF & Sanctions
We comply with the Money Laundering Regulations, POCA 2002, and relevant sanctions regimes.
- We must verify identity and address (and source of funds where appropriate).
- We may use electronic verification providers. This leaves a soft footprint and does not affect your credit rating.
- We may be legally required to decline or cease acting, or to report suspicious activity without notice.
6. Conflicts, Confidentiality & Legal Professional Privilege
- We conduct conflict checks before engagement and throughout your matter.
- Your information is kept confidential and protected by legal professional privilege unless a legal or regulatory duty requires disclosure.
- We will notify you of any material conflict and discuss options, including decline or termination of instructions if necessary.

We are a data controller under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

We identify and support vulnerable clients and those with additional communication needs. We may seek safeguarding guidance or referrals where legally appropriate and in line with client instructions and duties of confidentiality.
10. Use of Counsel, Experts & Third-Party Providers
Where we instruct barristers, experts, interpreters, or external service providers, we do so on competence, availability, cost, and compliance with professional standards.
We ensure appropriate confidentiality commitments and data protection safeguards.
11. Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking
We operate a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking.
12. Corporate Responsibility & Environment
Our CSR and Environmental Policy set out commitments to community engagement, sustainability, and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
13. Professional Engagement Terms
Your relationship with us is governed by:
- the Client Care Letter;
- our Terms of Business; and
- applicable SRA rules and law of England & Wales.
If there is an inconsistency, the Client Care Letter prevails for that matter.
