New Generation ALIS In-Flight Entertainment System
ASA have recently been awarded the software development and System integration contract for STRATOS Global Corp.'s new generation ALIS In-Flight Entertainment System. The system is designed to take full advantage of the greater performance of the "System 3000" host platform by Matsushita Avionics Systems Corp.
The new ALIS product will be entirely browser based, and epitomizes the next generation of IFE systems. The software has been designed to offer a vast range of content from Intranet surfing through to full Video and audio on demand, PC games and a host of other interactive applications.
Key factors in the selection of ASA for this contract were the Company's 15 year track record of delivering reliable, complex on-line systems on time and within budget, and their reputation for designing graphical user interfaces usable by non-IT specialists.
UK MOD Project CORMORANT EVP development for UK MoD
The UK Joint Rapid Reaction Force (JRRF) is to get an advanced communications network that will enable more effective command and control over Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force units deployed anywhere in the world.
This new system, known as Project Cormorant, and to be supplied by Cogent Defence Systems as Prime Contractor, will be air transportable, allowing secure communications to be quickly established between units in the field and to the UK as soon as the JRRF arrives in a trouble spot.
ASA are contracted to provide the software development and system integration of a key sub-system that allows dissimilar network types to inter-operate for voice, fax and data communications. Additionally, ASA is providing bespoke DSP algorithm development.
ASA's extensive experience developing communications inter-operability systems and their in-depth experience with the selected COTS hardware, complemented by their state-of-the art software production engineering process, were key decision criteria. Taken together, they provided Cogent and their MOD customer with a high degree of confidence that ASA would meet the project's demanding delivery timescales, and that any unforeseen technical challenges would be overcome.
